Ohrid - Skopje - Belgrade

8/11/09 Ohrid, Macedonia to Skopje, Macedonia to Belgrade, Serbia

Well, today was quite a long day. I decided to travel for a few days with some AMSA friends, and we wanted to head to Sarajevo. We took the early bus (6:00AM) from Ohrid to Skopje and finally got there around 9:30 AM only to learn that the bus to Sarajevo takes 18 hours and wouldn't leave until 1:00 PM. Plan B...bus to Belgrade, Serbia (8 hours) which also left at 1:oo PM. We bought the tickets and then killed some time in an internet cafe. Unfortunately we learned too late that they had issued us the wrong tickets (we couldn't read it...it was all in Macedonian in the Cryllic alphabet) so we missed our chance on the 1:00PM. It was very sad to see that bus pull away! Of course the ticket people did not feel bad at all, and simply issued us tickets for the 2:30 bus.

After a LONG, tiring bus ride we finally made it over the border and into Belgrade. I've never been so happy to see a city in my life! We were exhausted, hungry and smelly. Not a fun combination.

Good news was that our hostel is very cute and centrally located. Laura, Lauren and I dropped our stuff off and headed to a Serbian fast food place. We ate pizza with mushrooms and sour cream...yum! It was really good.

Next post will be all about exploring Belgrade...to be continued.
