Macedonia continued

Ohrid, Macedonia

We went into the city today after our meetings. It was so gorgeous - we walked through the old town and got to see some really old churches along the lake shore. Also I found a McDonald's! I was so upset to learn that they don't have french fries, though...isn't that bizarre? I got a strawberry sundae.

We hiked to the famous Sv. Jovan of Kaneo (St John of Kaneo) church. It's an absolutely breathtaking building built sometime in the 13th century (and it's always featured in guidebooks for the area!) The conference is finishing up and we're preparing to leave...most people take the bus to Skopje (capital of Macedonia) three hours away and then depart by plane or bus. I haven't figured out where I'm going next...more later!
