Bucharest, Romania
Gorgeous! This city is fabulous. Communism did not ruin any old European ambience Bucharest has to offer. I spent the evening walking in the historical centre where many reminders of the 1989 revolution exist. There is so much recent history all around! I love it. I went to the grocery store, bought yogurt, feta cheese and crackers and just sat on a bench in the Cismigiu Garden and watched the Bucharestians.
My journey to Bucharest could have been disasterous since the lady at the train station ticket counter was super mean, but a wonderful Romanian college girl stepped up and helped translate. She ended up sitting next to me on the train from Brasov, and she and I watched Two Weeks' Notice on her laptop. Her mom was so cute - she stayed outside of our train window on the platform until the train pulled away, and then she called her on the cell phone several times. I guess moms are similar everywhere.
Hostel's lovely (although we didn't have any water all day - water main break.) Tomorrow I plan on hitting the museums pretty hard. I can't believe my time in Romania is coming to an end!
